// overview
About Noir
Noir is a cinematic, dark-first theme for photo-journals, film writing and long visual stories. A full-screen hero, a frosted header that floats over your photographs and a sideways-scrolling Reel put your images first.
Who it is for
- You publish photography, film or visual long-form
- Your stories have strong feature images
- You want a site that feels like a cinema, not a blog
- You sell memberships or plan to
Probably not for you if
- Most of your posts have no images
- You want a bright, colourful look — see Volta
- You publish short news items several times a day
Pages and layouts
Page templates: Membership, Collections, Writers, Signin, Signup, Account.
Extra post layouts: Split.
Getting set up
- Tag images: give each main tag a feature image — it fills the tag page header and the Collections tile.
- Featured posts: mark 4–8 posts as Featured for the Reel.
- Upload the theme zip in Ghost Admin → Settings → Design, then fill in the theme settings.
- Import the sample content if you want to start from the demo and replace it with your own posts.
What you download
- The theme, ready for Ghost 6.0 or later (noir_1.0.0)
- Documentation in HTML
- Sample content you can import into Ghost
- 12 months of updates and support from the people who built it
Requirements
A Ghost 6 site: Ghost(Pro) on a plan that allows custom themes, or self-hosted Ghost. Memberships and paid tiers use Ghost's own members feature and its Stripe connection; the theme adds the pages and the paywall design. Demo photos are not included in the download.
